Kodava film wins Best Regional Film award in state

Madikeri: The Karnataka govt, which declared the winners of the State Film Awards for 2021, awarded the Best Regional Film to the Kodava language movie ‘Nada Peda Asha’.The film, which carries a strong social message, resonated with audiences during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic.‘Nada Peda Asha’ portrays the life of a martyr’s wife, a theme that deeply connected with viewers and received widespread appreciation. Highlighting the culture and traditions of Kodagu, the movie was praised for its authentic depiction of Kodava lifestyle and heritage.Nellachandra Rishi Poovamma and Bollajira B Aiyappa essayed the lead roles, with their performances adding strength to the narrative. Adapted from a work by writer Nagesh Kaluru and directed by Kottukathira Prakash Cariappa, ‘Nada Peda Asha’ marks the 21st production in the Kodava film industry, a small yet significant segment in Karnataka’s cinema landscape.Other notable Kodava films over the years include Kodagra Sipayi, Mahavira Achunayaka, Nadamanne Nada Kool, Mandara Poo, Na Bayanda Poo, Jadimale, Ponnra Manassu, Nirikshe, and Makkada Manas.
