Pic: File pic of workers preparing khadi flags at KKGSS, HubballiHubballi: The demand for sale of Khadi flags fell sharply after the central govt amended the Flag Code 2002 and allowed the sale of polyester tricolour flags, khadi national flag promotion campaign coordinator Santosh Nagaragund said on Monday.“National flags worth Rs 2 crore remain unsold at the Karnataka Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta Sangh (KKGSS),” he said, adding that the khadi national flag promotion campaign was launched to increase the sale of Khadi flags and create awareness among people.Speaking at a press conference in the city, he said, “The campaign was launched in three dimensions. People will be made aware of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)-certified Khadi national flag and will be encouraged to buy it. Steps will be taken to supply Khadi national flags across the country and the world through the internet via e-commerce”.He urged the govt to withdraw the permission for machine-made polyester flags, as amended in Section 1.2 of the Indian Flag Code; order the use of the Khadi national flag in all govt and non-govt offices, organisations, schools and colleges; modernise Khadi national flag manufacturing units, and promote them as national shrines.“The weavers who make national flags are owed Rs 130 crore in MDA and incentives from the state govt. This should be released immediately. It should be made mandatory for govt employees and students to wear Khadi clothes one day a week. People’s representatives should join this campaign,” he appealed.Shyam Naragund, Lingaraj Dharwad Shettar, Anita Kadagal, KV Pattar, Ramesh, and Shivananda Mathapati were present at the press conference.
