Bengaluru: Karnataka State Primary School Teachers’ Association will join the national teachers’ protest in New Delhi on Nov 24 against making Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) mandatory for in-service teachers. The Supreme Court recently ruled that TET is mandatory for all teachers, with more than five years of service left. According to the association, the mandatory TET order will affect at least 1.2 lakh in-service teachers in Karnataka. “We discussed with the school education department and law minister about this. We were told that the state govt will file a review petition in Supreme Court,” said Chandrashekhar Nuggali, president of the association. “Our demand is to exempt working teachers from TET as all of them were well-trained before being taken on board by the govt. TET should be made mandatory only for those joining the profession in future,” Nuggali added.
