Bengaluru: In a stern reminder to property owners across Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka, home minister G Parameshwara Saturday said renting out homes to foreign nationals without valid visas — or those overstaying— will not be tolerated. Speaking to the media, he highlighted the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants entering the city by paying the agents and said the state govt is taking action to deport those traced in Bengaluru recently.“House owners should carefully verify the documents of any foreign nationals seeking rental accommodation. If anything appears suspicious, they should immediately alert the jurisdictional police,” Parameshwara appealed. He also stressed the need for stricter border security, adding, “If an unauthorised immigrant is entering the country by paying money, it shows loopholes in the system. Border forces must remain vigilant.“
The minister recalled that, in response to a query at the Belagavi sessions last month, he had stated that over 300 foreign nationals overstaying in India — including several caught on drug peddling charges — have been deported from Bengaluru and other parts of the state so far. Of these, 200 were deported from Bengaluru alone.Since 2022, around 120 house owners in Bengaluru have been booked for violating the rules and guidelines under the Immigration and Foreigners Act. Many failed to inform the local police about foreign nationals residing in their rented properties. As per the law, house owners are required to notify the jurisdictional police within 24 hours of allowing a foreign national to occupy their property.
