Karavali Utsav from Dec 20; events planned across 6 beaches

Mangaluru: The Karavali Utsav for the current year will commence on Dec 20, with a range of attractive cultural and adventure-based programmes planned across various locations in the district, said deputy commissioner Darshan HV.Chairing a preparatory review meeting at the DC’s office on Tuesday, he said the main event will be held at the Karavali Utsav grounds in the city. To draw more tourists to the district’s shoreline, special programmes are being organised as part of the festival across six beaches—Panambur, Ullal, Someshwar, Sasihithlu, Tannirbhavi—and the Blue Flag Beach.Adventure sports will be held at Sasihithlu Beach, while the Tannirbhavi Blue Flag Beach will host a wine, cheese, and cake festival. A music festival and triathlon are planned at Tannirbhavi Beach. Ullal Beach will feature football, volleyball, and other sports events. Cultural programmes will be organised at Panambur Beach, while Someshwar Beach will host a musical evening and yoga sessions, the deputy commissioner said.A range of cultural events aimed at attracting the public will be conducted, along with food festivals at all beaches, showcasing a wide variety of local delicacies. Kala Parbha and a flower show will be held at Kadri Park, while a film festival will take place in Mangaluru city. Football tournaments are scheduled at the Nehru Maidan football ground on Dec 27 and 28. Programmes will also be organised at Pilikula Nisargadhama.To further enhance public interest, helicopter rides have also been arranged as part of the festival, the DC said. The meeting was attended by Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat CEO Narwade Vinayak Karbhari, assistant commissioner Meenakshi Arya, DCP law and order Mithun HN and DCF Antony S Mariyappa.
