Improve basic amenities in Chamundeshwari constituency: GTD

Mysuru: Chamundeshwari MLA and former minister GT Devegowda on Sunday emphasised the need for sincere efforts to improve basic amenities like drinking water, waste management, drainage systems, street lighting, and the control of stray dogs in a phased manner in his constituency. He urged local bodies, including the corporation, to work diligently and respond promptly to public grievances.Addressing a meeting organised by the Hootagally City Municipal Council (CMC), the MLA expressed concern over issues such as waste management, drinking water supply, stray dog menace, drainage maintenance, and street lighting. He highlighted that the Chamundeshwari constituency, one of the largest in the state, encompasses 18 gram panchayats, five municipal wards, four town panchayats, and one city municipal council.“Given its strategic position connecting all four directions, I am working tirelessly for the overall development of the constituency,” he said.Devegowda highlighted his ongoing efforts to bring gram panchayats and layouts along Mysuru’s Ring Road, including areas like Vijayanagar 3rd and 4th stages, under the umbrella of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC). “However, the proposal faced opposition from MCC members of BJP, JD(S), and Congress, who demanded a Rs 5,000 crore grant for the inclusion. Feeling humiliated, I withdrew the proposal,” he said.“The private developers have developed layouts and distributed sites without providing essential infrastructure like roads, water, or drainage, leaving residents in distress. People who built their homes with great effort couldn’t live peacefully due to lack of basic amenities. By establishing town panchayats and the city municipal council, systematic maintenance is now possible,” he said.“Over 1 lakh sites in private layouts have been transferred to MDA, ensuring proper documentation and access to basic amenities without additional costs to house owners. Under the JNNURM scheme of 2007, 60 MLD of water was supplied. Efforts are under way to ensure a 24/7 drinking water supply through the Kabini Phase II and Unduwadi projects,” he said. After the meeting, the MLA inspected a water tank in Vijayanagar 4th Stage to ensure the supply of adequate drinking water. Municipal commissioner BN Chandrashekar, assistant executive engineer Dhanush from Vani Vilas Water Supply Board, and CMC assistant executive engineers Madhu and Girija were present.
