Hindu Jagarana Vedike criticises cow theft, slaughter in South Kodagu

Madikeri: The Hindu Jagarana Vedike has criticised the recent incidents of cow theft and slaughter in South Kodagu. The organisation submitted a petition to the Kodagu district police on Tuesday, urging the implementation of strict laws to prevent such acts.The petition was presented to Virajpet sub-division DSP S Mahesh Kumar by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike district co-convenor, Yogesh BN of Bittangala. Yogesh emphasised the cultural and religious significance of cows in Hinduism and condemned the ongoing theft and slaughter for monetary gain. He highlighted the environmental impact, noting that waste from the slaughtered cows was polluting the Elingad river in Halugunda, which joins the Cauvery river.The DSP assured that legal action would be taken against those involved in cow theft and slaughter, and confirmed that the arrests were made in Mangaluru, Puttur, and Kerala, and urged locals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to cow theft. The Hindu Jagarana Vedike district committee member Ganesh Bittangala and cow protection committee president Ajay Rao accompanied during the submission of a memorandum.
