Caption: Rainwater on Pune-Bengaluru Road near NTTF in Dharwad blocked traffic movement on Thursday noonDharwad: Heavy rain which lashed Dharwad on Thursday afternoon brought the entire city to a grinding halt and exposed the shoddy civic works. It was cloudy since morning and around 3pm, the city started to receive heavy rain, whch lasted for more than an hour. Following the downpour, the old PB Road connecting Hubballi was choked.Due to poor drain network and blocked gutters, the road was waterlogged, bringing vehicular movement to a halt.Roads were flooded near important junctions, including NTTF, Toll Naka, KMF and near SDM Medical College. This crippled the vehicular movement and serpentine queues of vehicles stranded on flooded roads were seen on both the sides. The dedicated BRTS road too was flooded, making it cumbersome for the Chigari buses to wade through the flooded road. Several cars were stranded on the road and commuters were seen blaming HDMC officials for poorly maintained drain network.Rainwater gushed into several low-lying areas including Saidapur, Rani Chennamam Nagar, Haveripet Bhavikatti Plot and other areas giving nightmares to the people. The schools had reopened on Thursday after an extended mid-term vacation and the children had a tough time negotiating the slippery and flooded roads.
