HDK addresses Mysugar school salary issue, pledges personal support

Mandya: Union minister for heavy industries and steel, HD Kumaraswamy, on Thursday criticised Congress leaders for making allegations against him regarding the salary issues faced by the teachers at Mysugar School.Speaking during his visit to the school, Kumaraswamy, who represents the Mandya Lok Sabha segment, expressed deep displeasure over what he called ‘small-minded’ remarks by Congress representatives. “They are accusing me of failing to fulfil my promise of paying teachers’ salaries. But salaries cannot be paid through CSR funds,” he clarified. Kumaraswamy said that he decided to contribute his own salary to support the teachers.Reaffirming his commitment to public service, JD(S) leader said he already announced that he would adopt the Mysugar School. “I am not just developing one school. I arranged funds for the renovation of 75 schools across the state,” he added. Highlighting his development efforts in the district, Kumaraswamy stated that he secured Rs 34 crore in CSR funds last year alone. This year, he is working toward bringing Rs 30 to Rs 50 crore more, he said. He acknowledged that teachers of the Mysugar School are owed Rs 26 lakh in pending salaries for the past 13 months and reiterated his promise. “I will pay their salaries from my personal income. But the funds cannot be arranged overnight.”Assuring that he remains dedicated to Mandya’s progress, he said, “I will not allow injustice to the people of Mandya district. Discussions will be held with the trustees, and efforts will be made to revive the Mysugar School. I am also working to bring a new factory to the district,” he added.
