Haveri administration seeks Rs 50 cr for road expansion to DC’s office

Haveri: The Haveri district administration has submitted a proposal worth Rs 50 crore to the state govt for widening the 6-km stretch of road between JP Circle in Haveri city and the DC office located in Devagiri village. The project, which includes land acquisition, is currently awaiting govt approval.Sources say the 7-km route connecting the city to the DC office experiences heavy traffic, as it serves the Government Engineering College and the Haveri Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS). The same road is also frequently used during visits by the chief minister and other cabinet ministers. With a 50-bedded hospital under construction on the HIMS campus, ambulances and emergency vehicles regularly use this route. However, despite the growing vehicular load, the road remains a narrow two-lane stretch, leading to frequent and sometimes fatal accidents during overtaking. The district in-charge minister criticised the Haveri Urban Development Authority (Huda) for not ensuring proper road facilities on both sides before approving land conversions. “If both sides had been developed earlier, land acquisition for widening would not have been necessary now,” he remarked.“The road to the DC office carries heavy traffic, but it’s still narrow. We’ve witnessed many accidents over the years and have repeatedly requested the govt to widen it. Thankfully, the district administration has now taken up the issue,” said Manjunath Shivasali, a resident of Haveri.District in-charge minister Shivanand Patil confirmed that preparations are under way to expand the main road linking JP Circle to the DC office. “The project is estimated at Rs 50 crore, and the govt will soon take a decision on funding. Once approved, tenders will be called, and the expansion work will begin,” he assured.
