Greater Bengaluru Authority warns of show-cause notices for poor white-topping work

Bengaluru: Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed that show-cause notices be issued to contractors who fail to perform satisfactorily in executing white-topping works across the city.Chairing a review meeting on Friday, he expressed concern over the slow pace of work on 28 major roads and instructed officials to expedite completion through better coordination among departments. Rao said delays caused by pending BWSSB restorations, manhole elevation issues, and traffic police permissions must be resolved immediately. He directed Bescom to relocate poles and transformers at the earliest and told officials to ensure no potholes remain on white-topped or high-density corridor roads. At Silk Board Junction, where work on a stormwater drain, underground drainage, and Metro electrification is underway, the GBA chief commissioner instructed all three agencies to coordinate closely and complete work swiftly to prevent flooding. Rao also called for a meeting with OFC cable service providers to streamline the city’s cable-laying process. Departments have been asked to study models adopted by other cities and suggest a structured plan. He also instructed officials to prepare a detailed schedule with clear deadlines for resolving inter-departmental issues and ensure strict compliance. Senior BWSSB, Bescom, BMRCL engineers and officials were present at the meeting along with the traffic police department.
