Udupi: Police recovered stolen property from an interstate thief who has over 30 cases registered against him in various police stations across Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Umesh alias Umesh Balegar alias Umesh Reddy,47, was arrested on Jan 2 in connection with a case registered at the Kaup police station.During interrogation, the accused confessed that on Dec 4, he committed theft at the house of Raghavendra Kini, located on the Kaup Main Road in Mallaru village, and sold the stolen gold ornaments in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Under the leadership of in-charge DSp Karkala subdivision Prabhu DT, a team led by Kaup inspector Azamath Ali, along with personnel from the Crime Detection Squad, conducted a recovery operation. The police team took the accused to Madurai, Tamil Nadu, where based on his identification, the stolen property was traced, and a gold ingot weighing 55g was recovered and seized.
