Madikeri: After a sharp slump in the prices of ginger, farmers are now relieved as the prices have increased. This has extended new hope to ginger growers who were facing losses. The price of ginger has not seen an increase in price for the last two years.The ginger crop grown by farmers this time is now fetching Rs 3,000 per bag weighing 60 kg in the market. This has brought great joy to the few poor farmers who grew ginger this time.In 2024, the ginger was priced at Rs 1,600 to 1,700 in the market during the same period. Similarly, in 2023, the same ginger was priced at a maximum of Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000. So, the farmers who sowed ginger in 2024 incurred huge losses due to the fall in price. Sharath, the president of the Farmers’ Association, was happy with the rise in price of ginger.This time, the ginger crop grown by many farmers in rural areas was affected by a fatal disease. The disease could not be controlled. The farmers who lost money by spending on chemicals and sold ginger at the previous low price thereby losing money. They started planting paddy, while some grew corn.However, as per reports the current market price increase has brought some happiness to the farmers who managed to control the disease and maintain the crop.
