FIR against Yatnal for derogatory remarks on Dalit women

Koppal/Raichur: An FIR was registered against Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Tuesday night at Koppal City police station, following allegations that he made derogatory comments about Dalit women in connection with Mysuru Dasara celebrations. In a recent interview with a private TV channel, Yatnal said: “Only those who belong to Sanatan Dharma should offer flowers to Goddess Chamundi during Dasara, while Dalit women are prohibited from doing so.”The FIR was registered based on a formal complaint filed by Mallikarjun Pujar, a member of the Dalit community. Pujar alleged that Yatnal disrespected Dalit women and the community as a whole. Pujar further called for legal action, accusing the MLA of consistently making inflammatory and communal remarks.Meanwhile, addressing a Hindu Maha Ganapati Utsav Samiti procession in Raichur on Tuesday night, Yatnal made yet another controversial statement. “We have to beg to use a DJ once a year. The rest can boo whenever they like. If ‘they’ shout five times a day, won’t that cause us disturbance?” Yatnal said. A video of BJP MLA from Raichur City constituency, Shivaraj Patil, brandishing a sword during the same event has gone viral. Patil, a former JD(S) member and two-time BJP MLA, was seen celebrating with a saffron headgear and showcasing a sword presented to him by local youths who lifted him on their shoulders. However, no formal complaints have been filed in this connection.
