Shivamogga: Farmers from Puradalu village in Shivamogga district staged a protest by bringing crops damaged by elephant attacks and dumping them in front of the deputy conservator of forests (DCF) office in Shivamogga on Tuesday. The farmers were angry over the lack of action taken by the forest department to prevent elephant attacks.The farmers claimed that a herd of elephants was attacking their crops, including paddy, arecanut saplings, bananas, sugarcane, and maize, for several months. Despite informing the forest department, no action was taken. The elephants even entered the village, causing fear among the residents.The farmers alleged that the forest department was neglecting their duties and not taking any effective measures to prevent elephant attacks. They demanded that the department take immediate action to protect their crops and prevent further damage.Public hand over motorist to police Meanwhile, a motorist was thrashed by the public and handed over to police after his car hit an electric bike rider in Shivamogga. The incident took place in front of Kamala Nursing Home on Savalanga Road.The car allegedly hit the electric bike, which got stuck under the vehicle and was dragged for some distance. The car then crashed into a divider in front of the nursing home. Enraged by the incident, the public allegedly assaulted the driver. A video of the incident shows people climbing onto the car’s bonnet, hitting the driver, and smashing the windshield. Cops registered a complaint.
