Mysuru: After a record rally, the egg price is experiencing a sharp decline across the state. Prices are decreasing in both the wholesale and retail markets, causing heartbreak for poultry owners.According to data from the National Egg Co-ordination Committee (NECC), the rate for 100 eggs in Mysuru and Bengaluru is Rs 625 currently, which was Rs 706 until last Saturday, which was the record price for 100 eggs in the state until then. However, with falling demand, prices are plummeting now. Since Sunday, the egg price has been witnessing a free fall, industry sources explained.Prices are falling even in the retail market. “Currently, the prices are between Rs 5.5 and Rs 7, based on the size of the egg,” sellers explained.According to NECC zonal president Satish Babu, the price fall is on expected lines. “We were aware that prices would come down during the 1st week of Jan due to various factors, including the upcoming harvest festival Sankranti. But we are confident that the price is expected to stabilise after the festival,” he said. “There is nothing to panic about regarding the price fluctuation,” he said.“In Nov, 65 lakh eggs were exported daily from the country. It went up to 85 lakh in Dec. Jan’s data is expected after the month end,” he explained.
