Mandya: Even after 55 students obtained transfer certificates (TCs) and left Halakere Govt Higher Primary School for nearby Keelara Govt School, no elected representatives have visited the affected school, leaving parents and staff disappointed. Only district-level officials have visited the school so far.The Halakere school, located just 150m from Veerabhadreshwara Swamy Temple, became the centre of controversy after parents alleged that eggs were being served to students despite its proximity to the place of worship. However, the students who transferred are now attending Keelara school — which too has eggs in the midday meal — casting doubt on whether the egg issue was the real reason behind the exodus, officials stated.Out of the original 125 students, Halakere school now has just 60 students remaining. All of them continue to consume eggs under the midday meal scheme, contradicting the reason cited by the parents who withdrew their children.Despite efforts by the school’s teaching staff to persuade parents to reconsider, the parents insisted on the transfer, sending a misleading message not only to their children but also to the rest of the students in the school.
