Shivamogga: Outgoing Shivamogga deputy commissioner Gurudatta Hegde emphasised promotion of tourism to generate jobs in Shivamogga district.He stated that efforts were on to promote tourism in the district, including eco-tourism initiatives. Speaking at a farewell event on Friday, he said: “Shivamogga is a place that gave me a lot. It was a challenging yet inspiring experience.” He highlighted the challenges he faced, including land acquisition issues for various projects, including the railway and NH road construction.He expressed confidence that his successor would resolve the land issues of villagers who lost their land during the Sharavathi dam construction. Nearly 9,900 acres of land were surveyed, and a digital report was submitted. “We did a quality survey, and we are addressing the objections. We will submit the report to the govt soon,” he added.He spoke about the shortage of doctors and ambulances in the region and Kyasanur forest disease, stating that he would focus on these issues as the commissioner of the health department.Gurudatta was transferred as commissioner of health and family welfare services. He was also appointed as the managing director of Karnataka State Medical Supply Corporation Limited. He handed over charge to his successor Prabhuling Kavalikatti at the DC office.
