Education department takes steps to improve II PU exam results in Chamarajanagar

Mysuru: The department of pre-university education has rolled out a series of measures to improve II PU examination results in Chamarajanagar district this year.The II PU exams will be held from Feb 28 to March 17. Last year, the district recorded 73% pass percentage and secured the 13th rank in the state. This year, a total of 6,948 students are set to appear for the examinations across the district.The department has constituted a taluk-wise PU Results Improvement Committee in Kollegal, Hanur, Gundlupet, Yelandur and Chamarajanagar. The head of the committee visited all the colleges and reviewed the programmes and activities initiated to improve results with the heads of the colleges and lecturers in their limits.The taluk-level committee focused on slow learners, encouraging the college heads to conduct special classes for such students involving subject-wise lecturers. Teachers were also told to adopt such students, train them, and prepare them to clear their exams successfully.Apart from these measures, directions were also given to all principals of PU colleges to encourage their children to solve the previous question papers of 10 years, conduct monthly tests, encourage group studies, and review each student’s subject-wise performance to prepare for the exams.Almost all colleges conducted two tests, two preparatory exams, and mid-term exams. Directions were given to students to focus on areas where they performed poorly in such papers to clear the main exam.The department also conducted parent-teacher meetings three times a year to boost confidence and provide moral support to students appearing for the exams this year too, said Mahadevasamy, Chamarajanagar Govt Pre-University College lecturer.Speaking to TOI, Chamarajanagar deputy director of pre-university education Puttagowramma said that the department has initiated a slew of measures to improve second PU results, including reviewing the progress of all PU colleges every month, and also trained its lecturers to improve performance in PU. This year, the department is targeting to improve its performance in second PU results, he added.
