Drug accused externed to Shivamogga for 6 months; rowdy held

Mysuru: Adopting a “zero tolerance” policy against drugs, Mysuru city police have externed a person to Shivamogga for six months after he was accused under the NDPS Act. He was arrested on Sunday. Commissioner of police Seema Latkar, who is also the additional city magistrate, said in a release that an order of externment was issued against Manjunath alias Thoti Manja alias Aslam, a resident of Udayagiri. Police invoked provisions of the Karnataka Police Act 1965 to extern Manjunath, 51, a repeat offender, the police officer said. The accused was allegedly involved in illegal trafficking and sale of marijuana. Currently, there are three cases registered against him under the NDPS Act. Additionally, burglary and theft cases were also registered against him at various police stations in the state. According to the section, movements or acts of any person causing, or calculated to cause, alarm, danger, or harm to person or property can be removed from a place for a particular period. Police said they will initiate strict measures against those involved in drug-related incidents within the jurisdiction of Mysuru City, with a view to sending a clear warning to those involved in drug trafficking. Meanwhile, a listed rowdy was arrested by Mysuru City Police and transferred to Shivamogga Central Jail. He is accused under different provisions of the Goonda Act. In a separate development, Ganesh alias Ganapa, a 25-year-old rowdy sheeter from Janata Colony, under Vidyaranyapuram police station, was arrested on Sunday. Ganesh was booked in various cases, including assaults and grievous attacks. He has six criminal cases pending against him, police said. He was sent to Shivamogga Central Jail, police said.
