Congress issues notice over Mangaluru slogans

Mangaluru: Congress‘s national leadership has taken a serious note of rival sloganeering by Congress workers in Dakshina Kannada. AICC has issued a show-cause notice to KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai over the incident which took place at the Mangaluru airport during the arrival of party general secretary KC Venugopal on Dec 3.KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai and his supporters raised slogans in favour of deputy CM Shivakumar, while MLC Ivan D’Souza and his group responded with slogans backing CM Siddaramaiah.Venugopal was in the coastal city to attend the centenary celebration of the historic dialogue between Mahatma Gandhi and Sri Narayana Guru.Confirming that he received a show-cause notice, Rai said, “This is not a controversy at all. It’s an internal matter of our family. The mother has given a notice to the children; there is no confusion about it.” He said he will respond to it soon.D’Souza, however, maintained that he had not received any such notice. “Why should I get a notice? What is wrong in raising slogans in favour of our chief minister?” he said.Dakshina Kannada DCC president Harish Kumar downplayed the episode, saying, “Venugopal might have faced an embarrassing situation, and that is said to be the reason behind the notice. But slogans are routine in politics, and AICC is unlikely to treat this as a serious issue.”
