Complaint filed against online campaign defaming Jamia Masjid imam

Bengaluru: A complaint was filed with cybercrime police against a group of unidentified persons allegedly spreading false and malicious information online against Maulana Mufti Mohammed Masood Imran Rashadi, the imam and khatib of Jamia Masjid.Masjid teacher Masood Alam told police he found a few posts on social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp channel, on Nov 8, in which the accused circulated fabricated claims that Maulana Rashadi was involved in a Rs 30-lakh fraud in a DJ Halli case. Alam said these are false accusations and part of a coordinated online campaign aimed at tarnishing Maulana Rashadi’s image and creating communal unrest. The complainant said similar attempts were made earlier when writer Banu Mushtaq was invited for Dasara celebrations in Mysuru. A few individuals tried to stir up a controversy and tension in the community. Following that, the group allegedly began circulating fake posters and AI-generated videos.
