Shivamogga: Shikaripura Town police arrested a 67-year-old man for allegedly possessing firearms and manufacturing country-made weapons. The suspect, identified as Lakshmanappa, a carpenter by profession and a resident of Bhadrapura, was apprehended following a targeted raid on his property.On Feb 4, police verified a tip-off regarding illegal activities at the suspect’s old house. Following the confirmation, a case was registered under the provisions of the Arms (Amendment) Act 2019. Under the guidance of Shivamogga SP Nikhil, a special investigation team was formed to execute the search. Armed with a search warrant from the court, the police team raided the premises at 6 pm on Feb 4. During the search, officers recovered seven single-barrel country-made guns and various manufacturing components hidden inside the old building. Lakshmanappa was taken into custody and produced before a court, which remanded him in judicial custody. The Shivamogga SP appreciated the efforts of special teams, including PSI Sharath H and police personnel Kotreshappa, Pradeep K, Nagaraja, and Ravikumar, for their successful operation in curbing the illegal arms trade in the region.
