Burglars fail to rob bank in Ankola taluk

Karwar: In a daring but ultimately unsuccessful burglary attempt, unidentified miscreants targeted the Bank of Baroda branch at Sunksal village, Ankola taluk, by drilling through the rear toilet wall of the bank on Sunday night.According to police sources, the burglars meticulously bored a hole through the toilet wall located along NH-63 and entered the bank at night. After accessing the premises, they attempted to breach the reinforced wall of the strong room. However, their plan was thwarted when they failed to penetrate the high-security barrier, forcing them to abandon the operation and flee the scene empty-handed.The incident came to light early Monday morning. Senior police officials, including Ankola circle inspector Chandrashekhar Mathapati, rushed to the spot along with a team of investigators. More than 15 police personnel were deployed at the scene, supported by forensic experts and sniffer dogs, to gather evidence and track the suspects.Police have begun a detailed examination of CCTV footage from nearby establishments. Preliminary observations suggest that the burglars deliberately chose the toilet section of the building, believed to be a blind spot in the bank’s surveillance coverage. A case has been registered at Ankola police station.Uttara Kannada SP Deepan MN visited the location to personally oversee the investigation.
