Bidar: More than 15 buffaloes died after being washed away during heavy rainfall at Kamal Nagar taluk in Bidar district on Sunday night. Continuous heavy rain in the district caused extensive crop damage, submerging crops such as tur, soya, blackgram, and greengram grown on thousands of acres in Aurad taluk.A lake at Bonti village, under the minor irrigation department, overflowed, leading to further crop destruction. In Aurad taluk, heavy rains also damaged standing crops across thousands of acres. Heavy rain poured on Sunday night, disrupting many villages as streams flowed heavily, submerging bridges and cutting off links between them.Rainwater inundated houses in Bawalgaum and Bhandarkumuta villages, prompting the opening of rehabilitation centres in these areas. School premises have been utilised as shelters for villagers affected by the rain.Aurad tahsildar Mahesh Patil stated that if the rains continue, more rehabilitation centres will be established in several villages within the talukaBidar DC Shilpa Sharma visited the rain-affected villages in Aurad taluk and instructed taluk officers to arrange food and shelter for the affected villagers. She also directed officers to relocate residents living in low-lying areas to safer locations, as they face threat from rainwater.
