Bengaluru: BJP state president BY Vijayendra Saturday said the party would be ready for an alliance even in local body elections if the party high command decides so.Clarifying his recent statement that BJP should come to power on its own strength, Vijayendra said it reflected the aspirations of party workers.Responding to JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda’s statement Friday that the party will not ally with BJP for local body elections, Vijayendra said, “We respect him and acknowledge his role as a senior leader. JD(S) had joined NDA to strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hand and there is no confusion within the alliance.”“We will abide by whatever decision the high command takes on the alliance. If the leadership decides on an alliance even for local body elections, we will stand by it,” he added after Gowda chided him for saying BJP should form govt on its own.Vijayendra defended his statement, saying, “BJP had narrowly missed a clear majority by 5-10 seats in every election, and workers wanted the party to form govt in the state. We had secured a majority in the recent local body elections and, as the state president, it was my duty to convey workers’ sentiments.”
