Bike rider killed in accident, police probe allegations of drunk driving

Mangaluru: A bike rider was killed in a road accident at Pilathabettu Kattemane in Bantwal on Monday. Punjalkatte police registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. According to police, the accident occurred between a car driven by Prasanna and a motorcycle ridden by Imran alias SA Mohammed Taha. Imran sustained grievous injuries in the collision and succumbed to them.Police said the car driver, Prasanna, was attached to the DCRE unit. Following the accident, a video circulated on social media alleging that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. To verify the claim, the Punjalkatte police sub-inspector conducted a breathalyser (alcometer) test, which did not indicate alcohol consumption. The alcometer test was conducted in the presence of the deceased’s relatives, as well as the woman who shared the video and audio clips related to the incident. The test again confirmed that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol, police said. However, to rule out any doubt, police said a blood test of the accused would also be conducted, and further legal action will follow based on the findings.
