Bengaluru man pays Rs 56k fine for 130traffic violations involving 2 cars

Bengaluru: A man working in a private firm paid fines for over 130 traffic violations pending against his two cars Tuesday. He owns two cars and had 100 pending cases against one and around 30 against the other.The fines amounted to Rs 46,500 for one car and Rs 10,000 for the other. The state govt on Aug 21 issued an order giving a 50% concession on fines for pending traffic violation cases. The concession in effect since Aug 23 will continue till Sep 12.Assistant sub-inspector Devaraj S and head constable Deepak M shared the govt order in multiple WhatsApp groups, including the residents’ welfare association groups, and urged the members to clear all their pending traffic rule violation fines.The car owner approached Devaraj at AECS Layout Tuesday and volunteered to pay his pending fines. Realising that he would have to pay Rs 56,500 to clear fines against his vehicles, he requested that he be allowed to pay fines for half of the cases and pay the remaining amount after a couple of days. However, the ASI convinced him to completely clear all the pending fines.The vehicle owner had committed violations such as parking in a no-parking place and using a mobile phone while driving, a senior police officer said.Till Aug 27, the city traffic police collected fines amounting to Rs 18.9 crore by clearing 6.7 lakh pending cases.
