Bengaluru: Many house owners illegally construct a slope on the footpath from their door so they can take out their vehicles on them or use it same for parking. One such slope proved fatal for a 12-year-old cyclist as he fell from it, came under the wheels of a truck and died. The incident took place Monday 4pm at Sannakkibayalu in Summanahalli, Kamakshipalya, west Bengaluru. The victim is R Shashank, a class 8 student at a BBMP school. His father, Rajesh, is a carpenter, while his mother, Jyothi, a homemaker. They have a school-going daughter.Shashank had gone to a classmate’s house on his cycle to ask him to come out and play. When the classmate refused, Shashank decided to cycle back home. While riding, the front wheel of his cycle passed over a cement slope constructed on the pavement. As Shashank lost balance, he fell to the right. A truck carrying M-sand was coming from behind and ran over him, a police officer said. The truck driver fled the scene, leaving behind the vehicle.Asked whether the house owner, who illegally built the slope on the pavement, will face legal action, a senior police officer said, “The owner has encroached upon the road. The boy lost balance after riding on it. We will see what legal action can be initiated against him.”
