Udupi: A case was registered at the Hiriyadka police station against Bajrang Dal activists for allegedly inviting VHP member Sharan Pumpwell, who faces charges of delivering provocative speeches in the past, to a programme without informing police. Further, the organisers were also accused of violating the norms pertaining to the permission for the event.Police said that the Bajrang Dal unit of Hiriyadka organised a torchlight procession at 6 pm on Wednesday, from Kotnakatte to the Devadiga Sabha Bhavan, followed by a public meeting. However, the organisers delayed the procession, which began at 7.30 pm instead of the time granted by police, and later conducted a meeting at the Sabha Bhavan.Further, police granted permission for the event with clear instructions that there should be no provocative speeches that would breach communal harmony during the programme. Police said, despite issuing guidelines, rowdy-sheeter Dinesh Mendon and his associates invited Sharan Pumpwell from Mangaluru, who faces charges in a previous case involving inflammatory speeches. He was also allowed to be on the dais at the event. The programme reportedly continued from 9 pm to 10 pm. Further, the organisers, including Bajrang Dal activists Dinesh Mendon and Subrahmanya Bhat, allegedly failed to inform police about Sharan Pumpwell’s participation. Following this, a case was registered under Section 105 of KP Act.
