Activists protest use of trees to illuminate city during Dasara

Mysuru: Opposing the use of trees to illuminate the city during Dasara, activists carried out a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s residence on Hunsur Road on Sunday. They met district minister HC Mahadevappa and urged him to direct CESC not to use trees for illumination work.Around 9.30am, the activists arrived at the venue and hugged a tree that was used to put up lights. They formed a human chain and shouted slogans against CESC, accusing the power utility of harming trees, which would be affected by the lighting work.Later, the agitators met minister Mahadevappa and appealed to him to stop the practice. Chamundeshwari MLA GT Devegowda, who was present on the occasion, also echoed the opinion of the agitators. The minister assured the activists that he would hold a meeting with CESC officials in this regard.
