Haveri: Sadashiva Swamiji of Hukkeri Math said the credit for providing food, education, and shelter through the monastery’s threefold service, and for producing students who have contributed to various fields, belongs entirely to the math. He was addressing senior students during the Guru Vandana ceremony of Shivabasaveshwara Higher Primary and High School, held at the Shivabasaveshwara Kalyana Mantapa in the city.“It is time for students who studied at the monastery and excelled in their respective fields to honor their guru. To mark this auspicious occasion, the first floor of a free students’ hostel accommodating 1,000 students will be inaugurated within a year,” he said.Presiding over the event, Haveri deputy commissioner Vijay Mahantesh Danammanavar, an alumnus, highlighted the enduring influence of teachers in shaping lives with human values. “Our teachers deserve daily remembrance, as their guidance has enabled us to make our mark in society. Every individual, especially, needs the blessings of a guru, and I am fortunate to have received them. Managing my duties during the funeral of Sri Siddheshwar Swamiji in Vijayapura and attending this festival at Hukkeri Math are among my most blessed moments,” he said.Salim Ahmad, chief whip of the legislative council, observed that Hukkeri Math is more than a religious centre; it instills human values through education and culture while fostering unity beyond caste and religion. “As a devotee for the past two-and-a-half decades, I have learned to live by the Math’s principles. I will provide a grant of Rs 10 lakh from the MLA fund for the students’ hostel,” he assured.MLC SV Sankanur, Channabasava Swamiji of Dodda Hunase Kalmath in Savanur, Channabasava Swamiji of Moolegadde Shivayogashrama, senior alumnus Prof Omkar Kakade, among others, spoke on the occasion.
