Madikeri: The 127th birth anniversary of Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa was celebrated across Kodagu district on Wednesday.The Kodagu district administration, in collaboration with various departments, hosted a ceremony at the Field Marshal Cariappa Statue Circle in Madikeri.Students from various schools, NCC cadets, and ex-servicemen took part in a march past and reached the Field Marshal Cariappa Circle. Dignitaries offered floral tributes to Field Marshal Cariappa’s statue. Former minister MC Nanaiah said that the life of Field Marshal Cariappa must become an inspiration to youngsters.A ceremony was also hosted at ‘Roshanara’, the house of Field Marshal Cariappa in Madikeri city. His son, Air Marshal Nanda Cariappa (retd), offered floral tributes. He said that every Indian must put the nation as their first priority. These days when the influence of AI is increasing, people should verify the information carefully, he said. Before choosing any career option, give priority to serving the country, he advised. Cariappa’s daughter, Nalini Cariappa, was also present. Students from Sainik School, Kodagu Vidyalaya, and other institutions participated in the ceremony, even as Cariappa’s life story was narrated at the event.Meanwhile, the birth anniversary celebrations were held in many towns in the district, like Virajpet, Somwarpet, and Hudikeri. Students of Cauvery College in Gonikoppal offered tributes to the statues of Field Marshal Cariappa and General Thimayya as part of the celebration. At Shanivarsanthe, the birthplace of Field Marshal Cariappa, reverence was offered to the Field Marshal at the Cariappa Memorial Library in an event organised by FMKM Cariappa Club.
