Mandya: More than 10 people were injured, six of them critically, in a head-on collision between two cars near the Gaganachukki toll plaza on Malavalli-Kollegal road in Mandya district on Saturday.The impact of the collision was so severe as the cars were travelling at high speed, leaving both vehicles completely mangled and trapping several passengers inside the wreckage. Panic prevailed at the scene as the injured were heard crying out in pain, drawing the attention of motorists and local residents.Sources said that more than 10 people were travelling in the two cars at the time of the accident. Six sustained serious injuries, while the others suffered minor injuries. Rescue operations were immediately carried out to remove the passengers from the cars. Malavalli MLA PM Narendra Swamy, who was passing along the same stretch of road, stopped his vehicle and helped in the rescue efforts. All the injured have been shifted to the Malavalli Taluk Hospital after first aid. Doctors said the condition of the six injured persons remains critical. Traffic was disrupted briefly after the accident. Malavalli police registered a case and are investigating the cause.
