Madikeri: Kodagu police identified and arrested Nagappa Hanumantha Lamani, 26, a resident of Belagali village, Mudhol taluk, Bagalkot district, for uploading an inappropriate video on social media.The video, which was posted on Instagram from the account ‘Kotya 2026′, included a caption seeking information on where to find a girl for dating in Madikeri (Kodagu) district, along with a phone number. Following the post, a case was registered at Madikeri City police station under the provisions of the IT Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.The investigation, led by Suraj PA, DSP of Madikeri sub-division, traced the accused and arrested him. He was produced before a court on Saturday.Kodagu police have issued a public advisory urging individuals to verify the authenticity of any content before sharing it on social media. Police said spreading false information can lead to legal consequences, especially if it disturbs communal harmony or creates panic.Police are actively monitoring social media and will take strict legal action against those who disseminate misinformation. The public is requested to report any illegal activities to the local police or through the KSP app, and assured that the identities of informants will remain confidential.
