Mysuru: Mysuru zoo Saturday said 10-year-old zebra Prachi died two days after giving birth to a female foal.Prachi was acquired from the Zoological Centre, Ramat Gan, Israel, in Sept 2018, and played a key role in the zoo’s conservation and breeding programme, successfully delivering six foals.
Zoo authorities said Prachi was pregnant and was suffering from intestinal obstruction. Despite continuous veterinary supervision, her condition worsened due to complications caused by enteroliths. She delivered a healthy female foal but did not respond to treatment and succumbed to the illness, the zoo stated.The newborn foal is being hand-reared and remains under close observation by the zoo’s veterinary and animal care teams.
