Sami was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition with severe brain fever, a cold rash, and respiratory distress, following initial treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad. His oxygen levels had plummeted dangerously low, prompting the ICU team to place him on a ventilator to prevent respiratory failure, said Dr Anil Kumar Patil, neurologist at the hospital.“He was battling for his life when he was brought in. Despite our initial efforts, his condition worsened, and he was diagnosed with fatal encephalitis,” Dr Patil said.A treatment plan involving high-dose antibiotics and antivirals was immediately initiated under Dr Patil’s supervision. Continuous monitoring and timely medical interventions led to gradual improvement in Sami’s breathing and oxygen levels. He was eventually weaned off the ventilator and began showing steady signs of recovery.Hospital authorities confirmed that the patient has now fully recovered and is stable. Apart from Dr Anil Kumar Patil, head of neurology, a team comprising Dr Sohail Shali, head of the ICU department, along with Dr Prateek, postgraduate doctors, and dedicated nursing staff treated Sami. Shashil Namoshi, chairman of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society, commended their skill and dedication in saving a young life from a rare and fatal brain infection.
