Udupi: An elderly woman lost a three-sovereign gold chain during a festival held at a shrine near Padubidri. The complainant, Kamala,78, a resident of Hejamady village in Kaup, stated that on Wednesday, she left her house around 12.30 pm wearing a gold chain weighing about three sovereigns to attend the Nemotsava located near her residence. She was accompanied by her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter.After offering prayers and having darshan of the deity, while she was still at the venue, around 12.45 pm, her relative Sharada Poojary noticed that the gold chain was missing from Kamala’s neck and informed her. Kamala and her family members searched in and around the premises, but the chain could not be found. Later, Kamala recalled that she encountered three unidentified women at the venue, and suspected that they might have stolen the chain. This suspicion was conveyed to her family members. At 5 pm on Thursday, the matter was reported to the temple administration. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage installed at the shrine, it was found that three unidentified women allegedly stole the gold chain weighing about three sovereigns from the complainant’s neck, while distracting her under the pretext of offering assistance. Based on the complaint, Padubidri police have registered a case.
