Woman complains, cop chases & catches molester Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A traffic police constable chased a molester, aged around 25, for over 200 metres on the busy Brigade Road Tuesday night before catching him. The incident unfolded when a young professional raised an alarm after the suspect allegedly touched her inappropriately near Cauvery Emporium junction at 8.20pm.The woman, who exited MG Metro station, was heading towards the junction to catch an auto she had booked online. The suspect started following her from the Metro station. Three youths, who heard the woman screaming, advised her to approach cops standing near the traffic police kiosk at Brigade Road junction. The woman approached Sateesh S, attached to Ashoknagar traffic police station. “I told the constable (Sateesh) that a youth touched me inappropriately and was walking down Brigade Road in the middle of the crowd. The cop followed him, and the three youths, who were watching all this, followed the policeman,” the woman told TOI. According to the constable, the suspect was walking at a brisk pace and almost disappeared into the night crowd. “The accused started walking quickly after hearing the woman screaming. I guessed he was moving in the direction of Opera junction. I rushed towards him despite the fast-moving vehicles. For the last 100 metres or so, I ran and he tried to escape when I stopped near him,” Sateesh said. “Initially, the accused denied the allegations. But when the woman identified him as the person who had touched her inappropriately, he changed tack and claimed to have touched her by mistake owing to the darkness. By then a crowd gathered and shouted at him. Alarmed, he fell at the woman’s feet and apologised,” the constable added.
