Winners of trilingual poetry contests feted

Dharwad: Vaishnavi bagged the first prize in Kannada poetry composition and recitation in the trilingual poetry competition for children organised by the Children’s Academy of Dharwad. Priyanka secured second prize, while Shruti Ganiger got third prize.In Hindi section, Shaurya Barnwal, Feeza and Adhyashree Chandra won the first, second and third prizes respectively. Tejas Hegde, Avani and Sanvi Patil secured first, second and third prizes respectively in the English section.Speaking after distributing prizes to the winners, writer Chidananda Māsanakatti said poetry enables children to present their thoughts, reflections, and opinions in an appealing manner. Poetry is a blessing for children’s creativity, he said and added that children possess an innate and boundless creative spirit, which must be identified and nurtured by parents and teachers.Presiding over the programme, paediatrician and president of the Academy Dr Rajan Deshpande said the Academy was working towards encouraging creative activities among children. He also said that a collection of selected poems recited by the children and edited by Bālappa Chinagudi will be released to encourage the budding poets.More than sixty students from various schools across the city recited poems in Kannada, Hindi, English, and Urdu, on various themes, in both short verse and humorous styles.
