Two held after unlicensed gun misfires during hunting

Udupi: Hiriyadka police in Udupi district arrested two individuals for allegedly using a country-made gun and subsequently misfiring on a car and the door of a house in Kanajaru village, while hunting. The incident was reported on Sept1, and the police team succeeded in nabbing the accused on Wednesday.The accused, Pradeep,32, a resident of Kudi village, and Manoj,25, from Bommarabettu, both in Udupi district, were remanded in judicial custody by a court. Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said that the accused arrived at the hamlet near the house of Kanajaru Gururaj Manjithaya around 12.15 am with the intention of hunting. The accused used the gun in a negligent manner, leading to a misfire, that damaged the door pane of a car and the door of a house.Hiriyadka police registered a case under the Arms Act and Section 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the BNS, he said. A police team led by PSI Puneeth Kumar of the Hiriyadka police station succeeded in arresting Pradeep and Manoj. The police team seized the unlicensed gun, valued approximately at Rs 50,000, seven bullets, and a two-wheeler worth Rs 40,000, the SP said.
