Trust urges govt to notify coastal archaeological sites

Mangaluru: Udupi-based Adima Kala Trust has urged the department of archaeology, museums and heritage, Karnataka, to take necessary steps to declare archaeological sites in the coastal districts as notified areas.In a letter to the commissioner of the department, the trust stated that some of the archaeological sites in the coastal districts are of national importance and protecting these sites is an urgent necessity.“The trust, an organisation that provides archaeological research, exploration, conservation, information, and training, conducted several significant archaeological researches in the coastal region of Karnataka. Among them, some of the archaeological sites hold national significance. The preservation of these sites is an urgent necessity today. Therefore, necessary steps should be taken to declare these sites as notified,” stated Prof Murugeshi T, founder convener of the trust.According to Murugeshi, some of the sites in the coastal districts to be declared as archaeological sites include Avalakkipare, located within the jurisdiction of Iduru-Kunjadi village in Kundapur taluk, Udupi district; Buddanajeddu in Karkunje village of Kollur; Gavali in Kundapur; Baradakallu Bole of Karur in Bhatkal taluk, Uttara Kannada; Madmalpade in Palli village of Karkala taluk; and Moodukonaje in Moodbidri.
