Belagavi: In an effort to protect the environment and serve the local community, the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC), Belagavi, carried out a massive Swachhata Abhiyan at Savagaon lake recently. The initiative was conducted immediately after the Ganesha idol immersion festivities, a time when the lake witnesses heavy footfall and a significant accumulation of floral offerings, immersion residues, and plastic waste. The cleanliness drive was held under the guidance of Brigadier Joydip Mukherjee, commandant, The MLIRC, and was led on the ground by Captain Jineesh K, along with two JCOs and nearly 100 soldiers. Local members of the Savagaon panchayat, including families and children, also joined hands with the troops to restore the natural beauty of the lake and ensure that the ecosystem remained safe and healthy for the people who depend on it.
