Renovated Gokul Rd Central Bus Station in Hubballi will be inaugurated in November

Hubballi: After years of delay, the Gokul Road Central Bus Station has received a major facelift. The Mini Central Bus Terminal, which serves as a city bus hub, was also upgraded. Together, these two stations now have a new look and improved facilities. The number of platforms has increased from 53 to 61, and daily bus handling capacity has gone up from 1,550 to 2,340. Renovation work, delayed from May, is expected to finish by the end of this month, with the inauguration planned next month.The bus station was built in 1997. It was fully renovated at a cost of Rs 24.8 crore. Additional commercial spaces have been allocated in two parts of the station building. SV Angadi, NWKRTC chief civil engineer, told TOI that the entrance has been given a new look. The portico at the ground level was raised by one and a half feet. Toilet arrangements have been made on both sides of the station. A separate space has been set aside for dropping off passengers. This shows that the station has been renovated on a passenger-friendly model.M Priyanga, NWKRTC managing director, said that the renovation work of the bus stand is in the final stage. Minor works are pending and will be completed by the end of this month. City bus services have also commenced. The formal inauguration will be decided after discussing with the elected representatives. She said that many facilities have been provided to those availing the transport bus service, including a well-equipped restroom. A separate space has been provided for buses arriving from different districts and staying at the station. Separate arrangements have been made for staff to rest. Rooms for traffic controllers have been constructed separately.Mahesh Kumar, a resident of Anand Nagar, said that at the govt level, they bring crores of grants and implement the projects. However, the biggest worry is the maintenance of the developed or renovated buildings and the system. Cement pavement has been installed, and it is planned to make it a bike and car parking space. To enhance the beauty of the station, a garden is being constructed on both sides. Officials say that a contractor has been entrusted with maintaining it for a year.
