Hubballi: As part of the 24×7 drinking water supply project being implemented by Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC), the frequency of water supply has improved in several areas under the civic body, benefiting more than 18,000 households.Rudresh Ghali, the HDMC commissioner, told TOI the quality of water was being improved after coordinated efforts by officials of HDMC, Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), and L&T, the service contracting company. “As many as seven areas in Hubballi, which were getting water once in six days, are now getting it once in four days. In Dharwad, five areas, which were getting water only once in six days, are now getting it for three days. The other eight areas, which were getting water only once in six days, are now getting it for five days.” Executive engineer Savita Katigennavar said areas such as Mahant Nagar, Goudar Oni, and Gayatripuram in Dharwad were facing low water pressure for years. “Our engineers guided L&T officials to rectify the problems. We removed blockages in the pipelines and sorted out leakage issues. With the help of citizens, we could locate the valves, which helped rectify the water pressure,” she explained. Ashwini Ghatge, Jahnavi, and other women in Mahant Nagar, Dharwad, said that they are now getting water at an optimum pressure, thereby reducing their dependence on water pumps. Basavanagouda B Gaddi, a resident of Siddhakalyananagar in Unkal, Hubballi, confirmed he was getting water once in four days instead of the earlier practice of six days. Maruti, a resident of Mygaeri Oni, Hubballi, said L&T officials are now keeping residents informed in advance about any delay in water supply, which has greatly helped shape their daily routine. Many residents in Sadhanakeri, Dharwad, noted that the blockages in water pipelines were rectified by L&T officials.
