Udupi: Activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody, who was remanded to judicial custody on Thursday in connection with a provocative social media post, was granted bail on Saturday. The case pertains to a Facebook post dated Aug 16, in which Thimarody allegedly used abusive and obscene language against BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B L Santosh. He is also accused of insulting a Hindu religious leader and posting derogatory remarks intended to incite animosity between religions and communities. The FIR was registered at Brahmavar police station based on a complaint filed by Udupi BJP rural mandal president Rajeev Kulal. He was booked under sections 196(1), 352, and 353(2) of the BNS.Nagesh NA, additional civil judge and JMFC, Udupi, granted Thimarody conditional bail.
