Dharwad: A proposal will soon be sent to the state govt for the development of Indirammana Kere at Hulikeri in Alnavar taluk, Dharwad district, said deputy commissioner Divya Prabhu during her visit to the site on Thursday. The DC offered baagina at the tank and noted that the govt is committed to the development of the waterbody, whose foundation stone was laid by then chief minister D Devaraj Urs. Surrounded by scenic beauty, the tank holds great potential to be developed as a tourist spot, she said. Divya assured villagers that a bridge has already been constructed at a cost of Rs 9 crore under the minor irrigation department, thanks to the interest evinced by district minister Santosh Lad. Additionally, a canal has been built at a cost of Rs 6 crore, she said. Earlier, villagers had urged the DC to take steps to transform the tank into a tourist spot, pointing out that people from neighbouring Uttara Kannada and Belagavi districts often visit the tank. The residents raised concerns about encroachment of gomala land in the village. Responding to this, the DC said the tahsildar has been directed to examine the complaint and take steps to clear the encroachment. The villagers also demanded the construction of a small bridge across two streams near the village to ensure easier accessibility to their farms. Built in 1984 on the tributary of Tattihalla, Indirammana Kere supports irrigation in Alnavar and Kittur taluks. The 9.8km-long left bank canal irrigates 1,036 hectares while the 2.9km-long right bank canal irrigates 172 hectares.
