Police Seize 65 kg ganja worth Rs 50 lakh

Udupi: A special team of Udupi police arrested two individuals and seized 65 kg of ganja worth approximately Rs 50 lakh in Kadekaru village. The arrested are Ganesh,38, from Bilikere Hobli, Hunsur taluk, Mysuru, and P Gopal Reddy,43, from Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said on Thursday that the accused were caught in possession of banned narcotic cannabis, which they intended to sell at a public place near the Kinnimulki Welcome Arch in Kadekaru village. The police seized 65 kg of cannabis, two mobile phones, cash amounting to Rs 1,520, and other items. A case was registered under the NDPS Act.The operation was carried out by a team under the direction of Harsha Priyamvada, assistant superintendent of police, Karkala Subdivision, and under the guidance of DT Prabhu, deputy superintendent of police, Udupi Subdivision. The seized ganja was valued at Rs 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. A goods truck was estimated to be worth Rs 20 lakh; cash Rs 1,520; and two mobile phones were estimated to be worth Rs 20,000. The total estimated value of the seized items is Rs 72.2 lakh, the SP said.The special team included Ramachandra Nayak, inspector of Malpe Circle and PI of the CEN crime police station (in-charge), along with CEN station staff members Praveen Kumar, Praveen Shettigar, Yathin Kumar, Raghavendra, Deekshit, Nilesh, Mayappa, Muthappa, Pavan, and Praveen from Malpe police station, and Srinivas from Udupi traffic police station.
