Mangaluru: Mangaluru City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said those who open temporary stalls to sell fireworks during Deepavali and Tulsi Puja should obtain permission mandatorily. Permit holders should sell only green fireworks approved and certified by the CSIR – National Environmental Engineering Research Institute. The sale or use of firecrackers generating noise levels exceeding 125 dB(AI) or 145 dB(C)pk is prohibited as per the Indian noise level standards.During the festivals of Deepavali and Tulsi Puja (from Oct 19 to Oct 22 and on Nov 1 and Nov2, totalling six days only), those wishing to sell fireworks within the jurisdiction of Mangaluru City police commissionerate are instructed to apply in advance for a temporary fireworks license. Applications must be submitted well in advance to obtain the licence, he said.Applications for temporary licences to sell fireworks in open areas within the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru City police commissionerate as per Schedule-IV of the Explosives Act and Rules 2008 can be obtained from the official departmental website https://mangalorecitypolice.karnataka.gov.in and must be submitted to this office by Oct 10.
