Australia step into their final T20 World Cup match looking to finish a disappointing campaign with a win before heading home.

The former champions were knocked out in the group stage after Zimbabwe and Ireland’s match in Kandy was washed out, sealing Zimbabwe’s qualification to Super 8s alongside Sri Lanka. Australia’s exit followed defeats to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, making it only the second time they have failed to reach the next stage in the tournament’s history.

Injuries to key players, including the absence of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, disrupted their plans, while captain Mitchell Marsh also missed the opening matches due to injury.

Selection decisions have also drawn attention, including changes in batting positions and omissions from the playing XI. Despite the setback, Australia remain focused on finishing with a victory and shifting attention to long-term rebuilding.
